Reviews

Powerplay Magazine 9/10

Twelve tracks comprise this, their self-produced debut album, and the pout pourri of influences, U2 (guitarist Josh Watson effectively gives the Edge’s distinctive template a modern makeover while injecting the intensity and feel of Marillion’s Steve Rothery), Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, Rage Against The Machine, are vastly less than the sum of their parts. Indeed; the band transcends such transparent origins and emerge with something akin to greatness. There is real chemistry at work here and the final result is beauty, sadness, power and rage. Very close to genius, in fact.

Midlands Rocks 9/10 – http://www.themidlandsrocks.com/captain-horizon-the-lights-of-distorted-science/

Outstanding track though has got to be the powerful Patch, an anti-war song dedicated to Harry Patch, Britains last fighting Tommy from World War 1, when I first heard this in a very rough draft form it moved me, now it all it’s full glory this is a real lump in the throat song, and a firm favourite played live.

So listen to Captain Horizon, tell your friends to listen to Captain Horizon. Their debut came out on December 10th. Help speed along their status of not being just a great live band you may or may not have heard of. If nothing else, get them to the states so I can stop being so angry.

Original in their talents, Captain Horizon lands safely in the rock world with The Lights Of Distorted Science. Whitty’s vocals standout with originality, Mez keeps a tight control on some seriously dynamic range, Watson shreds precisely when he needs to and I haven’t been addicted to bass like this since Jared Followill.
