About

Captain Horizon

“… Unique blend of alt, prog, classic rock, indie and unashamedly glorious pop…”

Captain Horizon were an alternative rock band from Birmingham, active from 2008 to 2018. They never landed in one camp: bits of metal, bits of indie, bits of straight rock, and they were happy to leave it there. It came out sounding like them and not much else.

“Emotional integrity and intellectual rigour married to songs of almost unbearably moving intensity” – Powerplay Magazine

Live, the songs came at you. Loud, harmony-heavy, with a frontman who held the room.

Captain Horizon were:

Steve “Whitty” Whittington – lead vocals
Joshua Watson – guitars, backing vocals
James “Mez” Merrix – drums, percussion
Alex Thomson – bass, backing vocals

Over ten years the band independently released three EPs and two albums. The albums drew strong reviews in the rock press. They played UK festivals, including Glastonbudget and Cambridge Rock Festival, and toured Italy in 2016 and 2017. The second album, Imitation Sun (2015), came out on Rocksector Records, which also handled the re-release of the debut album.

This site stays up as an archive of the band’s music, gigs and history.
