James Merrix
James (Mez) was born in 1985 and has been playing drums for over a decade. Starting out playing with an orchestra in School, James moved on to Jazz groups before joining his first rock band, Final Redemption.
After discovering his love of composition and performing live, Mez embarked on a journey that saw him play the Cavern Club in Liverpool, and two battle of the bands finals, playing in a variety of bands including The RockHits, Hampton Street, Allucinere, Fulbright Legendx! and Six Degrees.
His influences include Dominic Howard and Jeff Campertelli. However, a change came over his playing after he discovered Virgil Donati. Virgil’s influences on Mez have inspired him to take the art of drumming to a new level, developing a taste of odd times and polyrhythm’s. Mez’s unique blend of left handed setup and traditional grip provide for interesting combination for anyone watching.
The power of the internet united him with Josh Watson and Alex Thomson, who went on with Steven “Whitty” Whittington to form Captain Horizon.
